Travel Expenses
For examinations requiring DPE travel, estimated travel expenses must be paid prior to the DPE beginning travel. Travel expenses are separate from the practical test fee.
Practical Test Fee
The practical test fee is due at the start of the examination per FAA Order 8900.1, after applicant eligibility has been established.
Late Cancellation Policy
If an applicant cancels a scheduled practical test less than 24 hours before the appointment and the DPE is already onsite or has traveled to the examination location, a $1,000 late cancellation fee will apply.
The late cancellation fee does not apply when the cancellation is reasonably necessary because of:
Other extraordinary circumstances may be considered at the DPE's discretion.
If the applicant reschedules and completes a practical test with the same DPE, $500 of the $1,000 cancellation fee may be applied as a credit toward the rescheduled practical test fee.
Travel expenses already incurred or committed remain separate from the late cancellation fee and are not refundable unless the underlying expense is recoverable.
Retesting & Discontinuance
The issuance of a Notice of Disapproval, Letter of Discontinuance, or an unsatisfactory result on a ยง 61.58 proficiency check may result in additional retesting fees, travel expenses, or both.
Any subsequent practical test, retest, proficiency check, or continuation requiring additional examiner time or travel may be subject to a separate fee. Applicable retesting and travel charges will be communicated prior to the subsequent appointment.
Travel expenses associated with a retest or continuation are separate from the original practical test or proficiency check fee.
